Mater Talk at The Kiln Rooms

Artist and Mater founder Maddie Rose Hills will speak about clay beyond the studio: tracing its journey from earth to studio, and exploring what happens after an object is formed. Considering how firing, or choosing not to fire, shapes clay’s afterlife. The talk will draw on conversations with artists who have been featured on The Mater Podcast.
Zahed Tajeddin

Influenced by ancient artefacts, archaeology and mythology, Zahed creates sculptural works that feel like they have been unearthed, featuring richly textured surfaces and naturalistic patinas. Zahed has worked on many archaeological digs in the Middle East, informing his ceramic practice and his current PhD research project exploring ancient craft.
Vanessa Hogge

Working in porcelain, Vanessa Hogge crafts ornate wallflowers and vessels. Each petal is sculpted by hand, bringing the clay to life in organic, decorative forms. No two flowers are identical, making each impressively textured piece unique. Vanessa has exhibited at Ceramic Art London, COLLECT and more.

The Kiln Rooms is more than just a space to create; it’s a place to develop as an artist and connect with like-minded creatives. We host a programme of social events, bi-annual members’ sales, and 6 to 7 artist talks each year – which are open to everyone and free to attend. These events form part of our wider development programme, which members and staff have full access to – offering additional opportunities to grow their practice through group tutorials, technical support sessions, participation in sales, and more tailored events!
Members Sales
Our bi-annual sales showcase the work of 80–100 emerging artists and designers working with ceramics across our Bellenden Road and Copeland Park studios, offering a chance to see handmade work, meet the makers, and visit the studios where the pieces are made.

Artist talks
We provide a wide range of talks and demonstrations from invited guests covering all aspects of professional practice. Running roughly 6-7 talks per year, all are free to attend and everyone is welcome!
The talks take place at our Copeland Park studio’s members area.

We say it a lot, but our community makes The Kiln Rooms. We keep it thriving through a number of social events to get involved in throughout the year, from pottery pub quizzes to drinks in the local pub and more informal get-togethers.
