Membership is designed to support independent makers through a combination of studio access, technical support, development opportunities and a strong community of fellow ceramicists. Membership gives you independent access to a shared ceramics workspace.
Rather than attending weekly classes, members work on their own projects using communal equipment, shared kilns and glazing facilities.
Our technicians manage the firings, maintain the equipment and are on hand to offer advice, allowing members to focus on making.
Membership is designed for people who want to make ceramics as a regular part of their lives. Our members include hobbyists, recent graduates, professional ceramicists, and those balancing making alongside their work. What they have in common is some previous experience with clay, a willingness to work independently in a shared studio, and a desire to be part of a supportive community of makers.
This particular membership model is not suitable for large scale production potters or people making very large work – for this we would advise joining our Copeland Park studio
Setting up a ceramics studio in London is expensive. Becoming a member of The Kiln Rooms saves money, provides flexibility and welcomes people to join a community of makers. The Kiln Rooms is built on a community ethos where all members work respectfully alongside each other, or together for mutual benefit. Working within this studio model fuels the development of ideas and a broadening of social / professional networks which wouldn’t be possible working in isolation. We nurture this supportive environment through a range of talks, events and selling opportunities.
As a member, you have your own storage space where you can keep personal items and there’s additional communal work in progress storage. Communal firings and glazes are included in membership (within reason) and there’s a storeroom onsite selling a variety of clays designed for the communal firing temperatures (1,000c for Bisque, 1,260c for Stoneware). In the studio you’ll also find; potters wheels, plenty of work benches, in house glazes, extruder, slab roller, cleaning & waste systems, reclaim area, tea & coffee station, wifi.
We have developed our access times based on many years of running shared ceramics studios, with the aim of creating a studio that feels active, supportive and enjoyable to work in. The access hours shown below are those we intend to operate from opening. As we finalise the studio, there may be a few small refinements, but we do not anticipate any significant changes.

Members have a dedicated area for independent making within the studio. Classes take place in a large teaching area, which allows members to continue working when a class is taking place. During the hours when classes are not running, members are also welcome to use the wider studio, creating a more spacious and flexible working environment. Class times will be made clear once scheduled.
As this is a new studio, membership will be introduced gradually, allowing the community to establish naturally while giving us time to ensure the space is working as intended. Our aim is to provide members with as much flexibility as possible while maintaining a comfortable and well-balanced studio environment.
£240: membership per month, rolling contract. Minimum of 2 months.
Paying in advance:
£1,350: 6 month membership (equivalent of £225 p/m).
£2,580: 1 year membership (equivalent of £215 p/m).

Bicycle racks can be found directly outside the studio / Paid for parking is available in nearby streets

We’re holding an informal open day on Wednesday 29th July (1-2pm and 5-7pm). The studio will still be under construction – so you’ll have to use your imagination, but it provides a chance to see the space, meet us and ask any questions. A second open day will be held closer to opening in September, when the wheels and kilns will be in.
